It’s June 2026, and the football fever is high, as the FIFA World Cup 2026 is just around the corner. But this time, the stakes are high, as this will be the first World Cup that will include AI in football. In the recent report, the tournament will be highly tech-sourced, from the ball to the referees; everything will include technology for accurate results. This will be the first fully tech World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. As the world says, the future of football will be reshaped by technology.

How Technology Will Change The World of Football

In past football games, the outcome usually depended on the decision of referees, and sometimes those decisions seemed unfair. To improve those human mistakes, FIFA tries many things like VAR, goal tech in ball and many other things to get accurate decisions without biased results. But in the FIFA World Cup 2026, FIFA is taking a huge step by making the tournament fully tech, from ball to player to VAR to referees, everything will include technology.  To know what kind of tech you will see during the tournament, read the blog till the end.

Smart Ball Trionda

The ball is the main element of the game, but forget about the normal ball that you use while playing; FIFA has updated their ball for the FIFA World Cup. The adidas trionda is not just a ball, it’s a classic piece of tech. Inside the ball, there is a hidden sensor; every kick to touch sends the data instantly to the system. The ball can do that all 500 times every second. This tech is used to get accuracy offside and goal line touch, which will make offside decisions more accurate and fair.

Advanced Semi-Automated Offside Technology

AI in football

In the past, the most hated and unfair decision was the offside rule. Your team scored a banger, but the ref saw it as an offside, which pissed you so much. This time, FIFA has come up with an advanced semi-automated offside tech. This will remove the work of VAR and will send a direct indicator of the offside to the referee for a better decision. Every player on the pitch has been 3d scanned, and their digital avatar is loaded into the system. These systems will send a direct message to the assistant ref on the pitch so they can flag immediately.

3D Players Avatars

Imagine your favourite player, like Messi, Ronaldo, or any other player, has a 3d model, every muscle, body position is recreated in a full 3d ways. This is what FIFA is doing in the FIFA World Cup 2026. Before the cup, every player is 3d scanned to create their digital version. This is all created to avoid any of the controversial offside decisions, as the 3d recreation will tell what exactly happened. This will tell which part of the body was out of the line and whether it is an offside or not, and this will all be shown during the broadcast too. This will make the game fair for the player and also for their fans.

AI in Football

The FIFA World Cup is a competitive tournament where 48 teams compete for glory. As the competition increases, the role of strategy analysis also comes in work. Big teams like Brazil, Germany and others have an entire room full of analysts, data scientists, and tech teams, who break down the matches and help to perform better in the next match against their competition. But this time, this all will change as the football AI pro will help all to do that. AI in football built by Lenovo has processed every team, every player, tactics and results, and turned that into something any team can simply ask for.

Any team can ask AI to know what the weaknesses of their opponents are and how to tackle them. This will help all teams to perform at a better level and make the sport more competitive.

Refs Body Cameras

While watching a match, ever thought why the ref is not giving the player a red card for that brutal tackle? Well, to be honest, the match looks different from the broadcasting cams. This time, all refs will wear body cameras on the pitch. This was tested in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, and now it is fully upgraded to be used in the FIFA World Cup 2026. These cams will give fans an after-view of the field through the ref’s perspective. Every tackle, every card or any crucial decision, you will be able to feel that all through the ref’s view.

The FIFA World Cup is one of the biggest tournaments in the world, and using these technologies shows that the future of football is full of AI. From ball tech to the referee’s body cameras, the use of this much technology to make accurate decisions and reduce the discrimination analysis between teams makes this tournament more competitive and high voltage. This World Cup will be full of sports technology with passion to achieve glory for their nation. So, who do you support?
