Whether it’s your first time traveling to Italy or you’ve been multiple times, this 7 Days in Italy Itinerary offers a balance of art, culture, relaxation, and adventure by visiting iconic cities and what you must see!

In this blog post, we will take you through a carefully crafted 7 Days Itinerary of Italy visiting Rome, Florence, Venice and a bit of Tuscan countryside. This itinerary is ideal for couples, solo travelers, and families alike looking to maximize their experience while on their Italian getaway.

📅 Day 1: Arrive in Rome – The Eternal City

7 Days in Italy Itinerary

Why Rome: Because it’s the ideal place to start with all that beautiful Italy has to offer. Ancient ruins to the Renaissance, Rome is a living museum!

Itinerary Highlights: 

  • Visit the Colosseum and Roman Forum 
  • Wander through Piazza Venezia and Via del Corso
  • Toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain
  • Enjoy dinner in Trastevere – Stroll through this delightful Roman neighborhood.

Tip: If you arrive early, consider a guided walking tour to learn more about the historical significance of various areas, and get a lay of the land.

📅 Day 2: Vatican City and more of Rome

Morning:

  • Let’s get started for the biggest highlight of your trip! Visit Vatican City – tour St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museums, and the Sistine Chapel. 

Afternoon:

  • Tour the Pantheon and Piazza Navona.
  • Enjoy some downtime at the Villa Borghese Gardens.

Evening:

  • Enjoy rooftop aperitivo with great views of the city.

Spend two full days soaking in the greatness that is Rome, so don’t feel rushed and enjoy its grandeur! 

📅 Day 3: Florence – The Cradle of the Renaissance

Travel: Take an early morning high-speed train to Florence (1.5 hours)

Why Florence: It is the birthplace of the Renaissance and is a compact city of world-class art, cathedrals, and markets. 

Highlights: 

  • Tour the Duomo (Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore)
  • Tour the Uffizi (make sure to book your tickets in advance)
  • Walk across the Ponte Vecchio.
  • Climb to the Piazzale Michelangelo for sunset.

Dinner tip: If you like steak, enjoy the infamous Bistecca alla Fiorentina with a glass of Chianti.

📅 Day 4 Day Trip to Tuscany – Wine and Countryside

Why: Tuscany is only an hour outside of Florence and a chance to experience rolling hills, beautiful vineyards, and medieval towns.

Options: 

  • Chianti Wine Tour: Go to wineries, enjoy tastings, and learn about Italian winemaking. 
  • San Gimignano and Siena: Visit two hilltop towns and beautiful Tuscan countryside in one day. 
  • Val d’Orcia: A photographers dream and paradise for wine lovers (think Montepulciano and Montalcino).

We will return to Florence in late afternoon and enjoy a slow Italian dinner at a local trattoria.

📅 Day 5 Venice- City of Canals 

Travel: Morning train ride to Venice (2 hours)

Why Venice: A city on water with both romance and history, and spectacular world-famous architecture.

Highlights: 

  • Visit the St. Mark’s Basilica and Doge’s Palace so you can say you did!
  • Explore the Rialto Market
  • Wander the narrow winding streets while crossing countless bridges
  • End the day with a Gondola ride (yes, it’s a touristy activity but magical nonetheless) 

Dinner: Try to find a restaurant canal-side in the Cannaregio or Dorsoduro areas to experience a more down-to-earth vibe.

📅 Day 6: More Venice or an Island Tour

Option 1: Island Hopping

  • Take a boat to a Murano (home of glass-blowing)
  • Visit the pastel-colored buildings of Burano
  • Stop in Torcello for a quiet moment

Option 2: Venice Art and History

  • Visit the Peggy Guggenheim Museum
  • Visit Teatro La Fenice or go shopping for Venetian masks
  • End your day with a Bellini cocktail overlooking the Grand Canal. 

📅 Day 7: Departure or Extra Day Options

Depending on your flight times, enjoy breakfast in a slow way and soak in your last moments in Italy.

Optional Additions if you have extra time: 

  • Go to Milan for fashion and architecture
  • Take a trip to Naples and Pompeii for southern flair
  • Spend a day at the beach on the Amalfi Coast or in Cinque Terre
