Finally hitting cinemas in 2025 after a lengthy build-up, War 2 arrives with sky-high expectations from fans of Bollywood action. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, this sequel to War (2019) promises to advance the bar with more explosive stunts, large scale spectacles and superstar charisma. Stepping into YRF’s already expansive Spy Universe, War 2 gives audiences yet another excuse to head to the cinemas for a popcorn experience.
War 2 is more than just a sequel — it’s a proper action carnival that prioritizes pure adrenaline and adrenaline rush over high-stakes story. Story merits to one side, War 2 is an incredible cinematic experience for action junkies, thanks largely to the overwhelming physical energy from the lead actors, breathtaking action chase scenes, and whizzing visuals.
What About War 2?
Following the overall success of War (2019), the sequel has a bigger canvas to paint on. The film continues Kabir’s (Hrithik Roshan) journey but it doesn’t invest much in the first part for its emotional connection. The focus is on new feats and a new and dangerous foe from Jr NTR’s performance.
What should you expect from War 2:
- Sequel to War 1 – While the plot has some threads from the first film, it’s designed to be watchable whether or not you have seen the first worthy of theatrical release version.
- Action over everything – The film is content to sacrifice narrative for bigger than life fight sequences, longer chases and gunnery.
- And twists and turns – There are a couple narrative twists (no spoilers) that do get you hooked while you’re watching.
- Serious attraction overseas – Shot in a variety of host countries from neon lit cities to icy mountains.
Cast
- Hrithik Roshan as Kabir – Charismatic and physically imposing, Hrithik again shows why he is the action king of Bollywood.
- Jr NTR as the Antagonist – Jr NTR is charismatic and authoritative, and he gives weight to each scene, which ensures that the hero-villain fights are compelling.
- Kiara Advani – Although she has a smaller role, she adds emotional weight and some charming moments to the movie.
Why was War 1 Famous (Spoiler Free)
The original War became one of the biggest hits of 2019 because it offered something Bollywood had yet to produce on such a scale – a slick, Hollywood quality action spy movie with Indian stars at the helm. It was eye candy, combined with very popular music, while Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff’s flair created a match made in heaven for an audience.
What Was Good About War 2
1. Action
On the whole War 2 provides pretty solid action that will keep you entertained. Whether it is the high adrenaline of a bike chase or the heart pounding intensity of a close combat scene, the film is exhilarating and you will feel every bit of action very much come to life on screen. It is a big screen film that embodies the kind of film for someone that enjoys high adrenaline action.
2. Choreography
The choreography within the stunts is brilliant. All of the action set pieces feel fresh on multiple viewings, such as the hand-to-hand combat and mass destruction. Hrithik and Jr. NTR bring physicality to the fight making the fight scenes believable.
3. Aura Farming of Hrithik Roshan
Hrithik’s entrance scenes aim to include high whistle moments. The filmmakers were smart to garner a large degree of presence from Hrithik, enhancing his on-screen “larger-than-life” characteristics that transcends across his on-screen character.
4. Jr NTR and Hrithik Roshan Performance
The chemistry between both did a fabulous job together. Whether they were fighting against each other in an action scene or conversing with sharp, clever dialogue exchanges, the characters performed splendidly and their screen presence sold the film.
5. Cinematography, Lighting, and Colours
Overall the visual presentation was wonderful. Although there are some moments of poor VFX to be found, the spectacular colours and stunning cinematography, lighting, colours and dynamic photography sold the overall visual.
6. Mid-Credits Scene
Yes, you might as well wait until the end of the credits. Without giving specifics, the mid-credits scene leaves a fun tease for where the future of the YRF Spy Universe might be headed.
What Could Have Been Better

1. Action Doesn’t Seems Realistic
For those that prefer realism in action rather than a style with some foundation in realism, War 2 might take it up a notch. The film completely embraces being larger-than-life which may be fun, or just not for you.
2. Too much Action
Some viewers may find the movie action non-stop tiring. The emotions being invoked may have been overshadowed too much by hardly any sequence breaking.
3. VFX Quality
While, generally, the cinematography is well-made, there were a few shots that were too VFX heavy and looked cheap. Luckily, the very bright colour palette and good lighting choices helped cover for some of this.
Final Verdict
War 2 will satisfy fans of large-scale cinematic explosions, and mega watt stars, and unrelenting action. It showcases the extremities of two of the biggest stars in the country today, Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR and gives audiences exactly what they wanted. However, it shares less emotional tethering to War 1 and is more of an independent nature movie in the YRF Spy Universe rather than a sequel.
If you are expecting a deeply dramatic, or realistic film then you may be let down. But, if you are clearly seeking a flashy, action-fueled Bollywood juggernaut, then there may be no better option in 2025 than War 2.
Conclusions
This is a film to watch on the biggest screen possible in your area. And, while you enjoy the ultimate action-spectacle, you will find too much to enjoy between the all-Thumpers-Up action choreography, star power and spectacle that make War 2 one of the most outright fun Hindi films of 2025. Go for it! It is big, unbearably loud, stylish, and utterly unapologetically a true big screen action spectacle – the kind of film that deserves to be savored in light-draining/high-sound-across-the-action-room-building.
